CHATEAU LYNCH BAGES
Arguably the most popular of all the eighteen Fifth Growths, Lynch Bages dates back to the 15th Century. Thomas Lynch was a descendent of the Tribe of Galway and inherited the estate through his wife in 1749.
The golden era started in 1934 when it arrives in the hands of Jean-Charles Cazes, who immediately began to lift the quality. His grandson, Jean-Michel Cazes, took over in 1973, modernizing the estate and becoming a tireless global promoter of Bordeaux.
Located just outside the town of Pauillac, the large 100-hectare vineyard sits on a gravel ridge overlooking the Gironde estuary. Plantings are 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, with an average vine age of around 30 years. The wines age very well, and sit nicely between the modern and the traditional styles, exuding power, concentration and charm.
